Arvind Gupta 


Founder IndieBio and SOSV Investment Partner


Formerly Design Director of Product Development and Strategy at IDEO and co-founder of fitness startup Starters, Arvind brings over a decade of experience in helping startups and Fortune 50 companies launch new tech products. He plays a pivotal role in providing purpose-driven design expertise for startups globally. In addition to driving the Leap accelerator program, Arvind invests in and mentors hardware and software startup companies in the Bay Area and China. A former equity options Market Maker, TEDx speaker, author and recipient of numerous international design awards, Arvind is also an experienced BASE jumper. He holds a degree in Genetic Engineering from the University of California, Santa Barbara and a Master’s Degree in Industrial Design from San Francisco State University.

IndieBio Program Director 

Ryan prides himself on disrupting the current status quo in both medical and consumer biotech. He was previously the Life Sciences head at the XPRIZE Foundation,  the co-founder and CEO of Berkeley Biolabs and the co-founder of Sudo Room and Counter Culture Labs, where he still retains a board seat.

Ryan has worked over the last decade in the biopharmaceutical industry to partner on and develop novel drugs from first IND submission to FDA approval with many major biopharmas including Pfizer, AZ, J&J, Sanofi, Takeda, Amgen, Genentech, and other companies in the U.S., E.U., and Japan. He’s also served as COO at Genescient Pharmaceuticals, a longevity focused biotech startup and CEO of Halpin Neurosciences, an ALS focused startup. Ryan’s work has been featured in Wired, TechCrunch, Forbes, the San Francisco Business Times, and other publications. He regularly speaks on biotech innovation and writes for Biocoder, an O’Reilly Media publication.


Ron Shigeta  @rshigeta


IndieBio Chief Scientific Officer 

Ron is a veteran of the biotechnology industry in the San Francisco bay area and has built several startups during his industry career as employee, consultant and principal.   Ron was a Scientist for Affymetrix, a Bioinformatician, an early member of the DIYBio movement (at BioCurious) and co-founder of Berkeley BioLabs. As the Food Lead at IndieBio San Francisco, he has helped to establish some of our new categories of food companies.  Ron received his PhD in Chemistry from Princeton University focusing in biophysics.
